Alongside making sure you get the correct sized envelopes for your documents or whatever you are sending, you also need to think about what type of closure is best for you too.
When it comes to envelopes, there is a lot to think about! Using our website menus just below the search bar, you’ll be able to browse through the type of envelope closure you need, but firstly, here are some of the most common types.
Gummed
Gummed envelopes require you to apply moisture to them directly in order for them to seal. The seal will become tacky and stick to the otherwise of the paper when you press the envelope shut. This is the most common sealing method and is known as the “lick and stick” in the stationery world.
Self seal
These envelopes will come with 2 pre gummed flaps and just require you to press along the flaps to seal the envelope securely. This type of envelope typically has a shorter shelf life because of the adhesive but is ideal for those who get through a lot of envelopes quickly.
Peel and seal
Peel and seal envelopes are typically gummed on 1 flap, however, this is covered with a removable strip you take off when you want to seal the envelope. Once the strip is removed, all you have to do is press along the flap to safely seal the envelope. These envelopes have a longer shelf life than self seal but can be a bit fiddly in high post traffic environments.
