Battery Recycling Matters In the UK as less than 3% of portable batteries are recycled, which means over 30,000 tonnes end up in landfill each year.

To tackle this, a European Directive (in effect since Feb 2010) requires all retailers to offer battery collection points. The goal? Recycle 25% of batteries by 2012, rising to 45% by 2016.
