Discover how B Corps can help you make more sustainable choices.
We are living in a time when protecting the planet is higher on the agenda than ever before. The growing demand for eco-friendly stationery and office supplies reflects a clear shift, as businesses and individuals are seeking greener alternatives for the workplace and home. However, navigating the wide range of sustainability certifications can be challenging as a consumer. It’s not always easy to tell which products genuinely make a positive impact.
Alongside environmental concerns, there’s also an increasing demand for brands that operate ethically and responsibly. While eco credentials can seem complicated at first, they provide a trusted way to identify companies that meet recognised environmental and social standards. In the UK, businesses with B Corp Certifications are widely recognised as meeting these higher benchmarks.
With March marking B Corporation Month, we’re taking a closer look at what the certification involves, and are highlighting some office supplies and stationery brands that have achieved this status.
What is a B Corporation?
A B Corporation, commonly known as a B Corp, is a business that has been independently verified to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. Companies with a B Corp status commit to balancing profit with a positive impact on people and the planet. They also operate within a legal framework that requires them to consider all stakeholders, including employees, communities and the environment, not just shareholders.
B Corps are certified by B Lab, a global nonprofit organisation that assesses companies across five key areas: governance, workers, community, environment and customers. The certification process is rigorous, inquiring business to evidence responsible practices throughout their operations, from supply chain management to environmental footprint.
Today, there are more than 10,300 certified B Corps worldwide, spanning 163 industries across 103 countries. In the UK alone, the list has grown to over 2,700 certified businesses and continues to expand each year.
Why Do B Corps Matter?
B Corps go beyond simply being eco friendly. They signal to consumers that they are supporting a business committed to ethical practices and environmental responsibility. As sustainability has become more prominent, so too has the risk of greenwashing, where companies make exaggerated or misleading environmental claims. This can make it difficult for individuals and businesses who genuinely want to make better choices.
B Corp certification helps cut through that confusion as it provides clear, independent verification that a company has met rigorous standards across social, environmental and ethical performance, giving customers greater confidence in the products they buy.
Finding Sustainable Office Supplies
Office supplies have traditionally carried a significant environmental footprint. From paper to single use plastics, many of the everyday items found in offices can have a considerable impact on the planet. In recent years, however, this has started to change. The growth of eco-friendly office supplies, such as recycled desktop accessories and FSC certified paper, means there are now more sustainable options than ever before.
If your organisation is serious about making more responsible purchasing decisions, it’s worth looking out for the B Corp logo when shopping. While it signals strong environmental standards, it also goes further, indicating that the company behind the product is committed to wider social and ethical responsibility, not just greener materials.

Overall, the B Corp certification can help consumers and businesses make better sustainable and ethical choices going forward. Not only is gaining this certification part of a rigorous process, but one that highlights overall sustainable practices, not just focus on material choice or recyclability.
