Discover our recommendations for first aid supplies.
Being prepared for accidents is a legal and moral responsibility for every workplace. Under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations Act 1981, employers must provide adequate first aid equipment, facilities and information to protect staff and visitors.
Your exact requirements depend on your risk assessment, but every workplace needs, at the bare minimum, first aid supplies, a nominated person, and clear guidance for employees to feel safe in the workplace.
Today, we’re going to be taking you through some of the most important first aid supplies to maintain a safe environment.
First Aid Kit & Supplies
Under current guidance, it is the law to provide first aid kits in workplaces. These are there to protect employees and visitors throughout the working day, should any accidents happen.
We have a wide range of first aid kits available to suit all kinds of budgets and workplaces. Alongside standard first aid kits, we also offer the option to have wall mountable first aid and travel first aid kits, which are ideal for teams on the go. It’s essential that every workplace has a first aid kit and keeps on top of it.
Products in first aid kits usually have an expiry date, so somebody in the workplace will need to be responsible for keeping this updated. We also have first aid kit refills to top up your supplies and re-use your kits.
Defibrillator & AED’s
While not mandatory, AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) and Defibrillators are increasingly common in larger workplaces, public venues and schools.
They deliver a controlled electric shock during cardiac arrest and can be life saving. HSE (Health and Safety England) and the Resuscitation Council recommend considering an AED if your risk assessment highlights factors such as venue size, distance to emergency services or high footfall.
An exception to the rule are schools, as the Department of Education mandates the provision of at least one AED on site.
We have a range of defibrillators to choose from which are suitable for large venues, schools and educational facilities.
Anti Choking Device
Another useful bit of first aid equipment is an anti choking device. Time is of the essence when somebody is having a choking fit and when all else fails, these clever devices can help.
Devices like the LifeVac can help when standard first aid techniques fail. They’re especially useful in environments with higher choking risks such as schools, nurseries, restaurants and hospitality settings. They require no training and can be used on adults or children.
Choking can kill in less than 10 minutes and it’s vital to act quickly. LifeVac is designed for situations where first aid response has failed. Simply place the mask over the mouth and nose, and push the handle down and pull up sharply.
Easy to store and use, if you are a large business, venue or educational institution, then investing in a LifeVac Anti Choking device is recommended.
Critical Injury & Mass Evacuation Supplies
Again, this won’t always apply to small businesses and offices, but many larger venues have a duty of care to visitors and the public. Unfortunately, we live in a world where anything can happen and the growing threat of teroism can put members of the public in danger.
Larger venues and public facing environments may need to go further. Under Martyn’s Law (2025), certain venues must implement stronger security and emergency response measures, including critical injury kits and emergency first aid supplies.
These help manage severe bleeding, support safe evacuation and provide rapid first aid during major incidents.
Large businesses and venues should always be prepared for every eventuality and emergency. Although not nice to think about, being prepared is the best way forward to ensure the public and staff are safe.
