The Drosophila Food Starter Kit by Philip Harris contains everything you need to feed and house Drosophila melanogaster fly cultures for breeding (flies are available to purchase separately).Drosophila melanogaster are an excellent organism for visibly examining cross-breeding and genetics. Genetic traits such as eye colour, body colour and wing condition can be investigated by breeding normal type Drosophila melanogaster with other genetic hybrids (such as a culture possessing the vestigial wing trait).Flies can be anaesthetised and separated out for examination and further cross-breeding.Each kit contains:10 x Drosophila Vials with foam stopper, containing Drosophila Food10 x Ladders - for flies to climb5g pack of YeastIn order to activate the Drosophila food, add a couple of granules of yeast to each of the vials before the introduction of the flies.N.B. Drosophila Fruit Flies are not included.Always ensure the Drosophila vials are stoppered with a foam plug in between examination sessions.
