Haribo
Haribo Aims to Spread Joy in Everyday Life through Colourful and Playful Sweet Confectionery Across Generations.
From a home kitchen to a global market leader. The story of the global confectionery brand, Haribo, began in 1920 by Hans Riegel Sr in Bonn, Germany. He started with just a sack of sugar, a copper pot, and a marble slab in a small kitchen. By 1922, Riegel had invented the “Dancing bear,” which is now a very well known fruit flavoured gummy. Eventually, this would evolve into the iconic Goldbear we know and love today. Haribo only grew into the twentieth century and beyond, and in 2020, they enjoyed their 100th birthday. Today, despite being a global brand, their headquarters are still in Germany, where they employ over 7,000 people. Still proudly family owned, Haribo constantly strives to innovate whilst preserving their history and nostalgic appeal.
Haribo, as an iconic confectionery brand, effortlessly blends a sense of tradition, joy, and fun with every product it launches. From classic favourites like Gummy Bears, to newer launches like the Harry Potter series. Since day one, Haribo have aimed to spark joy, fun, and creativity into everyday, and they have carried this into the present day by innovating appealing confectionery which appeals across generations. Whether you are five or fifty, indulging in Haribo sweets is still a fun and delightful experience.

More About Haribo
More Information About Haribo
Haribo had humble beginnings in 1920 in Bonn, Germany. Its founder, Hans Riegel Sr, began with a sack of sugar, a pot, and a marble slab in a small kitchen. By 1922, he had pioneered the first “Dancing Bear” gummy, which would evolve into the iconic Goldbear we know and love today. By 1933 they had grown to 400 employees and built a main production facility in Bonn. Then they introduced liquorice products with the likes of Liquorice Wheels. The outbreak of World War Two disrupted their production, and their founder, Hans Riegel, died in 1945. His wife Gertrud briefly ran the company until their sons Hans Jr and Paul Riegel took over in 1946.
Post-war, Haribo acquired other confectionery companies, including Kleutgen & Meier and Bonera in the Netherlands. By 1967, they had expanded into France and began growing across Europe. Throughout the 1980s to early 2000s, Haribo enjoyed global recognition and the brand became synonymous with gummy candy with iconic products such as the Goldbear, Cola Bottle, Gummy Frogs and Sour gummies. By 2020, they celebrated their 100th anniversary. With their headquarters still in Germany, today Haribo employ over 7,000 people across the world in over 100 countries. Still family owned, Haribo are proud of their traditions and strive to spread joy across the world with delicious and fun confectionery for all.
