For four of these years he was Literacy Co-ordinator, so was involved in buying suitable and engaging reading material, co-ordinating reading intervention programmes and promoting literacy across the school. His dismay at the suitability of the books available for such students led to him creating his own materials to develop literacy, as he became well aware that poor literacy and the stress this causes is a major cause of unsettled behaviour in classrooms.
